WALTER BOBBIE

Mr. Bobbie’s direction of the international hit Chicago won him the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award and will celebrate its 10th Anniversary on Broadway this November.

He is a three-time Tony nominee who directed Broadway’s Sweet Charity starring Christina Applegate,Twentieth Century starring Alec Baldwin and Anne Heche, Footloose for which he also co-authored the book, and A Grand Night for Singing at the Roundabout Theatre.

The former Artistic Director of City Center's ENCORES!, he directed its premier production of Fiorello!, and produced the series through Call Me Madam, One Touch Of Venus, Out Of This WorldPal Joey, DuBarry Was A Lady and Chicago.  He continues as an Artistic Associate of City Center ENCORES! and has since directed its productions of Tenderloin and Golden Boy.

Mr. Bobbie has also directed for the New York Shakespeare Festival, Manhattan Theatre Club, Philadelphia Theatre Company, Sundance, the O’Neill Center, Goodspeed Opera House and Ensemble Studio Theatre where his production of David Ives’ The Other Woman was the breakout hit of this year’s Marathon 2006.

The direction of his sellout concerts at Carnegie Hall include Carousel starring Hugh Jackman and Audra McDonald, and South Pacific starring Brian Stokes Mitchell and Reba McEntire, which was filmed for Public Television and received an Emmy nomination.

Last season, Mr. Bobbie’s stage adaptation of Irving Berlin’s White Christmas grew to three separate productions in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Boston, and will celebrate its third season with productions in Minneapolis, Detroit and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Bobbie is a member of the Executive Board of the Society Of Stage Directors and Choreographers.
